Safety and Environment reinforces the importance of post-accident intervention at INFORCE
Segurança e Ambiente participated in INFORCE 2026, held from 12 to 14 February at Exponor – Matosinhos, a leading event that brought together public authorities, companies and professionals involved in security, civil protection and operational response.
Throughout the three days, the company’s stand served as a key meeting point with authorities, operational entities and sector partners, fostering the exchange of experiences and reflection on the role of post-accident intervention in restoring road safety and traffic conditions.
Within the framework of the INFORCE Talks, Segurança e Ambiente hosted a session dedicated to post-accident road safety under the theme “Restoring road conditions as a factor in reducing road accidents and protecting the environment.” The session positioned post-accident response within the international and European context of the Safe System approach, highlighting it as one of the structural pillars of modern road safety.
Based on the Vision Zero 2030 framework and the European Road Safety Policy Framework 2021–2030, the presentation emphasized that the technical cleaning of the roadway, the proper removal of debris and spills, and the swift restoration of safe conditions are essential to reduce incident duration, prevent secondary accidents, protect operational personnel on the ground and mitigate environmental impacts.
During the presentation, a structural challenge in Portugal was also identified, related to the absence of standardized procedures for post-accident intervention. This situation results in heterogeneous practices, unclear responsibilities, increased risks for operational personnel and significant environmental impacts.
The session also highlighted the benefits associated with the standardization of these procedures, including the reduction of secondary accidents, shorter average incident duration, improved safety for operational personnel, compliance with environmental legislation and clearer coordination between entities. These gains can be monitored through objective indicators such as response times, the rate of secondary accidents and the proper management of waste and hazardous substances.
The talk featured the participation of Dr. Fernando Montenegro, CEO of Segurança e Ambiente, Commander Paulo Santos, Commander of the Pernes Volunteer Firefighters, and Colonel Pedro Patrício (GNR, retired), bringing together complementary perspectives on the importance of a specialized, coordinated and technically appropriate response following road accidents. The talk also included the participation of the GNR Territorial Command of Porto and the PSP Metropolitan Command of Porto.
Segurança e Ambiente’s presence at INFORCE therefore reinforced the relevance of the post-incident phase as an integral part of the road safety chain, highlighting the need for technical and environmentally responsible solutions that contribute to safer roads, normalized traffic flow and an effective reduction of secondary risk.
