Safety and Environment joins the Yellow May 2026 Movement promoted by PRP
Segurança e Ambiente has officially joined the Maio Amarelo 2026 Movement, reinforcing its commitment to promoting road safety, accident prevention, and the protection of human life on Portuguese roads.
This joining is in line with Segurança e Ambiente's mission to actively contribute to the development of a culture of responsibility, prevention, and road awareness, promoting safer and more conscious behavior among all road users.
Participation in this initiative comes in a particularly challenging context for road safety in Portugal. Operation Easter 2026 ended with one of the most serious tolls in recent years, recording 20 fatalities, 53 serious injuries, and 845 minor injuries in 2,602 accidents that occurred between April 2 and 6. Compared with the same period last year, the number of fatalities quadrupled.
Given this reality, it is increasingly important to strengthen awareness and prevention efforts among civil society, warning against risk behaviors such as speeding, alcohol consumption, and distractions while driving, factors that remain among the main causes of road accidents.
Portugal continues to show worrying indicators in this area, ranking among the European Union countries with the worst results in terms of severe road accidents, with significant human, social, and economic impacts.
Segurança e Ambiente believes that reducing road accidents requires a collective effort and coordinated action among public, private, and associative entities, and therefore undertakes to continue actively collaborating in awareness and road safety promotion initiatives.
The Maio Amarelo Movement is an international road safety awareness initiative, represented in Portugal by Prevenção Rodoviária Portuguesa (PRP), which has been leading this campaign nationwide for nine years.
